Our courses and activities
Kirkbride Learning Centre offers a wide range of courses and activities which fall within the following categories:
- Arts, crafts and textiles
- Photography
- History, writing, poetry and reading
- Languages
- Work and business
- Recreational computing
- Dance, health and exercise
We run courses not only at our base at Kirkbride Primary School, but also at Thomlinson Junior School in Wigton, Kirkbride Village Hall and Port Carlisle Methodist Chapel,
We have friendly, approachable staff who love what they do. The activities provided are varied and, because they are often weekly, they are great for socialising! We are always keen for new ideas, so if there is anything that the community would like to see provided, we listen.
Learning for fun
Our leisure-learning courses are open to everyone. From family history to selling your unwanted items on eBay, to taking a walk on the marsh with an expert from the Solway Wetlands, we provide a well-balanced, varied selection of classes and events for learners to choose from.
We run exercise classes which run during the day as well as the evening.
We have craft sessions which are very relaxed and informal, as well as classes which have a little more structure.
Hopefully there is something for everyone!
Computing and our facilities
Computer classes run in various locations, with a tutor on-hand to show you how to get online. We have an ICT suite with 8 brand new Windows 8 laptops and 4 iPads for learners to use.
Room hire
The Learning Centre is available to hire.
£12 per hour (concessions are available for charities and community groups).
We have a large conference table which seats 14 and our own kitchen facilities.
Other services
Printing and photocopying services are available.
We are a Cumbria County Council library book drop location.
We are also a Foodbank collection point.
Convenient access
As we are rural, we use several outreach locations, which all offer free parking.
Our facilities are fully accessible to people with disabilities.
